ECDPM wants to promote the transition of fragile and conflict-affected countries towards peaceful, well-governed and prosperous societies, and to encourage a strategic peace and security partnership between Africa and Europe.

While African actors have enhanced their conflict prevention and management capacities, they still struggle to contain drawn-out crises. In Europe, the EU is taking steps to develop its collective strategic autonomy and deepen its partnership with Africa.

Our research on peace and security includes work on European, African and international conflict prevention, peacebuilding and security policies; peace and security cooperation between Europe and Africa; the EU’s approach to the links between humanitarian assistance, development and peacebuilding; the women, peace and security agenda; and the links between conflict and the climate crisis.
