The establishment of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) is an impressive political achievement, but it needs to be backed by action to make sure that Africa’s businesses and citizens actually benefit from it. Simultaneously, Europe is striving to assert itself as a geopolitical power. Trade policy plays an essential role in the EU’s toolbox for interacting with the rest of the world. Our work centres around regional and continental trade policies, industrialisation, and using trade policies for non-trade objectives.
