Sophie Desmidt

Head – peace, security and resilience


Sophie Desmidt is the head of ECDPM's peace, security and resilience team and ad-interim associate director of ECDPM's peaceful societies and accountable governance cluster. She is also a member of the management team and coordinates ECDPM’s gender task force.

With degrees in linguistics and international relations from the University of Ghent and in globalisation, peace and security from the London School of Economics, Sophie’s interests and expertise relate to the fields of international relations, peace and security, climate change, resilience and gender. Her work focuses on regional approaches to peacebuilding and conflict prevention, the linkages between climate change and conflict, resilience to climate change, and approaches to support gender equality. 

Before joining ECDPM, she worked as an EU advocacy assistant at Human Rights Watch in Brussels. She was also an intern in the West Africa team of the UN Secretariat’s department of peacekeeping operations and an advisor at the Permanent Representation of Belgium to the UN in New York.
