European finance as a lever for the energy transition, economic security and competitiveness in the Mediterranean

On 12 March 2026 from 11:00-12:30 CET, ECDPM together with E3G and CONCITO, are organising a closed door hybrid workshop for an in-depth exchange on the state of play of European international climate and energy finance in the Mediterranean.

This is a closed-door and invite-only event.

Background

This workshop brings together European institutions, DFIs and MDBs, think tanks and knowledge institutes working on global climate and energy action for an in-depth exchange on the state of play of European international climate and energy finance in the Mediterranean.

As European competitiveness and economic resilience become more closely tied to external partnerships, the EU is seeking to upgrade its external finance architecture. Alongside Global Gateway and Team Europe Initiatives, new regional and bilateral platforms, including T-MED or CTIPs, aim to steer EU, member state and private finance towards strategic energy and industrial investments.

The Mediterranean offers a particularly relevant testing ground: a region central to the energy transition, where investments in renewables, grids, ports, hydrogen and low-carbon industry intersect with broader questions of economic security and long-term partnership.
