Will a post-2015 development framework acknowledge migration?
In October 2013, the second United Nations High-level Dialogue on International Migration and Development will be held in New York, presenting the internationalcommunity with a valuable opportunity to focus its attention on how to make
migration work for poverty reduction and sustainable development. The second High-level Dialogue will take place at an important time, as the international community considers moving beyond the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), and towards the formulation of the United Nations post-2015 development agenda.
There were references to migration in the 2000 Millennium Declaration, such as the need to combat human trafficking and protect the rights of migrants, but specific goals, targets and indicators for migration were not included in the MDG framework. This book examines the case for integrating international migration into the post-2015 development agenda.
