Africa-led innovations in agriculture

On 24 January 2023 from 1200-1330 (CET),  ECDPM, together with The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), are organising an informal, closed-door, hybrid roundtable event to discuss Africa-led innovations in agriculture, the current challenges and financial gaps for further progress, and how partners can help bridge these gaps via research and financing.

A promising transformation has started in African agriculture. Family farmers are increasingly using innovative approaches and scientific research, combined with traditional knowledge, to increase the productivity of their fields, diversify their crops, and ultimately build climate resilience. Countries like Ethiopia and Kenya have been frontrunners in this endeavour. But, this transformation can only be successful if larger numbers of small farmers and small- and medium-sized enterprises can better access markets and digital technologies and tools, if efficiency increases along agri-food value chains, and if national and regional policies also support this effort. And, last but not least, international partners play an indispensable role in making Africa’s agri-food systems more efficient, inclusive, resilient and sustainable.

This is an invitation-based, closed-door event.
