Commodities and the extractive sector: Can transparency foster prosperity, progress and development in the EU and Switzerland?

Key messages The priority for resource-rich developing countries is to transform their extractive resources into prosperity, progress and development. Commodity trading plays a key role in the supply chain. The role of traders and that of their home-countries, are crucial in fostering progress and development in resource-rich countries. There is broad consensus about the importance of increased transparency and better regulations for better development outcomes.
