European Report on Development (2013) Post-2015: Global action for an inclusive and sustainable future, Overseas Development Institute (ODI), German Development Institute/Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE), European Centre for Development Policy Management (ECDPM), Brussels: 2013.
The international community is on the verge of a unique opportunity to reset the global development agenda after 2015, the expiry date of the Millennium Development Goals. The European Report on Development (ERD) 2013 argues that the new framework that will replace the MDGs needs to build on the past achievements, but has to go further by looking beyond MDGs and beyond aid. Effective multilateral action in areas as migration, trade, and finance – not covered by the MDGs – will be key to efforts of developing countries to achieve progress. The report draws on wide-ranging research and consultations in Nepal, Rwanda, Cote d’Ivoire, and Peru and was prepared by ECDPM, ODI and DIE.
The ERD 2013, the fourth such report to be published by the EU, focuses on the post-2015 development agenda, which will replace the Millennium Development Goals framework. Within this overall theme the report analyses what kind of global framework can help focus efforts on poverty eradication over the next couple of decades and explores how prosperous countries can best support the efforts of developing countries to achieve progress post-2015. The European Report on Development is an independent report on development prepared by ECDPM, the Overseas Development Institute (ODI) and the German Development Institute (DIE). It is funded by the European Commission and seven Member States, namely Finland, France, Germany, Luxembourg, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom.
