Peter Schwartzstein
Biography
Peter Schwartzstein is an environmental journalist and researcher, who works at the intersection of natural resources, politics, and security, with a particular focus on the climate–violence nexus. He’s spent more than a decade reporting across over thirty countries in the Middle East, Africa, and farther afield, mostly for National Geographic. His work has also regularly appeared in the New York Times, Foreign Affairs, the BBC, and Bloomberg Businessweek, among many other outlets.
Peter is a fellow with the Stimson Center's Environmental Security Program, a TED fellow, and the journalist-in-residence at the Center for Climate and Security. He was previously a Global Fellow at the Wilson Center. Based between Athens, Greece and Amman, Jordan, he consults for a range of governments, iNGOs and UN agencies. He is the author of ‘The Heat and the Fury: On the Frontlines of Climate Violence,’ the first from-the-ground exploration of climate’s contribution to violence.
