Associate - EU foreign and development policy

Biography

Dr James Mackie is a specialist on EU development policy with a career of some 40 years in international development cooperation. He joined ECDPM in January 2002 as a Senior adviser and took on a host of different key roles including as a member of ECDPM’s Management Team.  James retired from ECDPM in 2020 and continues to work as an independent consultant on EU development policy.

Dr Mackie is Visiting Professor at the International Relations and Diplomacy Department of the College of Europe in Bruges. Prior to joining ECDPM, James Mackie worked for ten years as Secretary-General of the NGDO-EU Liaison Committee in Brussels (now CONCORD). From 1982 to 1992 he worked for VSO, in Asia as a country representative and programme manager and then at the headquarters in London, on programme funding.
