Digital public infrastructure for inclusive digital development

On 20 June 2023 from 14:00 - 15:30 CET, ECDPM will host a webinar to look at the roll out of the Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) as a catalyst of inclusive digital economies across the world. In particular, the webinar  will explore the demand for DPI in Africa, and look at how the EU might share its own experiences in building interoperable DPI and the regulatory frameworks to support it.

At the recent G20 Digital Economy Working Group (DEWG) in India, the host nation highlighted how digital public infrastructure (DPI) had played a vital role in allowing India to leapfrog 40 years of development and provide public and private services at scale.

As the EU aims to expand its global digital footprint, particularly in Africa, it is exploring how to put together an offer that meets African demand. Under the Global Gateway strategy, the EU plans to build digital connectivity and support African governments in their efforts to develop digital governance and regulatory frameworks to boost the wider digital economy. Yet the EU also has important experiences in developing DPI and the necessary regulatory frameworks to support it that can also be drawn on in order to expand the inclusivity of the digital economy in Africa and across the world.
