Vacancy: Finance officer

40 hours/week

Are you interested in working on energy, industrialisation and finance, and do you have experience in policy-oriented research and projects? We are looking for a research assistant to join our team on climate action and green industrialisation.

Who are we?

We are ECDPM – a leading independent 'think and do tank' that wants to make policies for Europe, Africa and other key partners work for inclusive and sustainable development.

Our more than 50 staff members from over 25 countries worldwide provide independent research, advice and practical support to policymakers, advisors and practitioners in Europe, Africa and beyond. Our focus is on EU foreign policy and policies related to digital affairs, climate and green transformation, peace and security, migration, governance, sustainable food systems, regional integration, business, finance and trade.

About the role

Invoices, payments, budgets, contracts. All sorts of things appear on your screen. Fortunately, you don’t just see isolated numbers—you see the story behind them. You process incoming invoices and bank transactions, make payments, prepare invoices, and keep a close eye on cash flow. Accounts receivable? You never lose sight of them.

But this role goes beyond day-to-day administration. You regularly dive into project budgets, contracts, and forecasts. You assess what financial agreements mean in practice. You support budgeting and controlling. And you help colleagues in Maastricht and Brussels clarify financial issues. Your goal? Projects that are substantively strong and financially sound.

You also play an important role behind the scenes. You assist with audits, handle VAT and CBS filings, and keep an eye on payroll administration. Meanwhile, you’re always on the lookout for smart improvements. A process that could be faster? A system that could be set up more efficiently? Chances are you’ll be the first to spot it. Because in addition to analyzing numbers, you get just as much energy from improving and automating processes.
