Ivan is leading the work of ECDPM’s Knowledge Management and Communications platform which brings together Knowledge Management, Communications, IT and Publication teams.

Originally from Zagreb in Croatia, Ivan has gathered international experience in various aspects of knowledge management and communication.

His key roles are to stimualte learning, innovation and knowledge sharing at ECDPM and in its networks.

He facilitates organisational innovation and change by creating learning questions, documenting organisational processes and leading the implementation of organisational collaboration tools. Ivan’s approach is rooted in the community management and change management approaches.

Ivan designs and coordinates knowledge sharing and stakeholder dialogue around EU-Africa policy making and innovation. He provides guidance on how the emerging technologies can support the dissemination, uptake and networking of ECDPM’s knowledge products.

He advocates Integral Approach to knowledge management, in which organisational strategy, knowledge sharing, internal and external communication, IT and M&E come together in a dynamic way. He provides strategic knowledge management advice to partners, such as NEPAD Agency.

Ivan is a senior editor of Knowledge Management for Development (KM4Dev) Journal.

Pre-ECDPM assignments

Prior to joining ECDPM, between 2001 and 2007 Ivan worked as the partnership officer at International Institute for Communication and Development (IICD) where he managed Building Communication Opportunities, an alliance of government and implementing agencies working on ICTs for development.
Prior to that, Ivan worked as Business Manager at Transitions Online,  and at Funredes — an NGO exploring the role of ICTs in Central America and the Caribbean — where he managed various Communities of Practice (CoPs).

In advisory role, Ivan developed a social media strategy for, a Croatian civil society portal, and is one of the founding partners of, an online learning environment.


Ivan holds a BS degree in Economics from University of Zagreb, Croatia and a BA degree in Modern Literature from University of Parma, Italy. He holds the MSc in Development Studies from the London School of Economics.

He is currently undertaking a PhD research on alliance management in international cooperation at United Nations University-MERIT.
