Hauck, V. 2015. "Capacity development: Our generic learning – applicable to migration support". Presentation. ICMPD Capacity Development Workshop. Brussels, Belgium. 23 September 2015.
Volker Hauck was invited by the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) to deliver the keynote presentation at a workshop in Brussels on 23rd September 2015. This was part of the conference – ‘Advancing Migration Cooperation through Demand-Driven Capacity Building: MIEUX’s Peer-to-Peer Approach’.
In light of 2015 being the European Year for Development, and the month of September dedicated to Demography and Migration, ICMPD and the European Commission (DG DEVCO) hosted this conference to share MIEUX’s efforts, experiences and lessons learnt in delivering peer-to-peer, demand-driven migration expertise.
The event gathers stakeholders from various backgrounds to reflect upon shared experiences and on the implication of MIEUX’s peer-to-peer approach towards facilitating delivery of the requested support to partner countries in an effort to develop their capacities in migration management.
The workshop in which Volker Hauck presented was entitled ‘How to deliver capacity building to partner countries – The added value and relevance of capacity building facilities in the area of migration’.
The focus of this workshop was the Migration EU eXpertise (MIEUX) programme – a joint EU-ICMPD initiative that aims to enhance the capacities of partner countries and regional organisations to better address all areas of migration through a comprehensive approach to migration management. Following the successful completion of its initial phase, MIEUX entered its second phase: MIEUX II (2012–2015).
“As an innovative, pioneering, demand-driven, global migration capacity building facility aimed at enhancing the technical expertise of partner country authorities, as well as regional organisations, MIEUX seeks to better address all areas of migration through the mobilisation of peer-to-peer, tailor-made expertise from EU Member State administrations and/or non-EU Member States, when relevant, and a collaborative result-oriented follow-up” ICMPD
This workshop follows on from the recent publication of ‘Capacity Development Beyond Aid‘.
