The European Centre for Development Policy Management (ECDPM) has appointed Ewald Wermuth as its new Director from 1 March 2015. He succeeds Paul Engel who steps down after having served ECDPM since 2001.
Since 2012, Ewald Wermuth has been the Director of International Public Affairs at IDH The Sustainable Trade Initiative, in Utrecht, the Netherlands. He was responsible for developing and executing IDH’s strategy on international cooperation and partnerships as well as communications, external affairs and risk management. Prior to that, he was, among other appointments, Ambassador/Permanent Representative to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), the World Food Programme (WFP) and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) in Rome. He also served as Private Secretary to the Dutch Minister for Foreign Trade and worked for the Cabinet of the Prime Minister.
Ewald Wermuth, a Dutch national, thus brings long and extensive Dutch, European and international experience and networks. He holds particular expertise on trade, commodities, private sector, food security and agriculture.
The Board of ECDPM called upon Paul Engel to stay with ECDPM as Senior Fellow for another year to contribute to a selection of strategically important projects.
