Dr. Fabien Tondel is a Policy Officer at the European Centre for Development Policy Management (ECDPM) in Maastricht.
He conducts policy-oriented research on inclusive agri-food value chain development, rural development and food security in Africa, in the context of the Comprehensive Africa Agricultural Development Programme (CAADP) and of Africa-Europe relations in the area of sustainable economic development, with a focus on West and Eastern Africa. Fabien Tondel facilitates multi-stakeholder dialogues, advises decision-makers, and fosters partnerships among governments, business, civil society and science organisations, to promote an enabling environment for the development of inclusive and resilient agri-food markets and institutions.
He also works on policy coherence for sustainable development, in the context of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, European sustainable development strategies and Europe-Global South relations, developing knowledge, methods and capacities for integrated approaches to policy planning and implementation.
Prior to joining ECDPM Fabien held the position of Markets and Trade Advisor for the USAID-funded Famine Early Warning Systems Network (FEWS NET), supporting food security analysis, early warning, and humanitarian and development responses in Africa, Central America, the Caribbean and Central Asia. Fabien holds a PhD in Agricultural Economics and a MS in Economics from the University of Kentucky, USA. He obtained his undergraduate degree from the National Superior Institute of Agronomic Sciences, Food and the Environment of Dijon.
