“If the political will exists, the Development Cooperation Instrument can be an effective global player in the issues where the EU can prove its added value – on human rights, democracy, the rule of law, the plight of vulnerable groups in the world and sustainable development, energy and climate action”

Thijs Berman, Dutch MEP from the Socialist & Democrats Group and the Dutch Labour Party, argued in conversation with Florian Krätke, Policy Officer at ECDPM’s Strengthening European External Action Programme.

Thijs Berman is Rapporteur on the Development Cooperation Instrument in the European Parliament’s DEVE Committee, and he discussed the negotiations for the Development Cooperation Instrument (DCI), one of the EU’s main financial instruments for development cooperation.
