Biography
Carl Michiels is the director of ECDPM. He has over three decades of experience in international relations and development.
Prior to joining ECDPM, Carl worked in the NGO community, the academic world and government. As a former chairperson of the Belgian development agency’s management committee, Carl played a key role in leading the successful transformation of this large organisation operating in more than 20 countries, mainly in Africa.
In the 1990s, Carl was the advisor to the Belgian development and foreign affairs minister. Other roles he has held include president of the Practitioners’ Network steering committee, the consortium of European implementation agencies, as well as director of the Flemish Interuniversity Council’s secretariat for university development cooperation.
