ARI was drawn to the idea of organising this event by Dr Jesse Salah Ovadia at the University of Newcastle, who is on the verge of launching a book, The Petro-Developmental State in Africa: Making Oil Work in Angola, Nigeria and the Gulf of Guinea. The publication is intended to provide a corrective to the ‘resource curse’ narrative which dominates both academic literature and popular perceptions of oil and gas discoveries in Africa.
ECDPM’s Isabelle Ramdoo will sit on the panel.
