The workshop brought together three current streams of reflection and three overlapping communities of practitioners of policy-relevant sustainability science:
- One is an informal (so far) network initiated and animated mainly by the Institut du développement durable et des relations internationales (IDDRI) with a current focus on the implementation of the Agenda 2030 with its Sustainable Development Goals.
- A second is an emerging network of largely university-based sustainability researchers with an interest in promoting sustainability science in policy-relevant research as well as in teaching, including curriculum development.
- The third is the European Partnership for Sustainable Economic Growth and Employment (EPES) as a group of think tanks and practitioners.
The purpose of this event was to maintain and build momentum, provide an opportunity for networking and strengthening alliances, identify synergies among the participating institutions and networks, and focus on strategic cooperation for improving the science base for and development of public policies to promote development towards sustainability.
