Day one of the Special Session of the Food Crisis Prevention Network (RPCA) will promote the Network’s achievements and lessons learnt since its creation in 1984. The meeting will discuss and present various tools designed and implemented by the Network to enhance regional governance of food security in West Africa, and will share these experiences with similar initiatives in other regions and continents. The following tools or initiatives will be featured:

  • The Charter for Food Crisis Prevention and Management
  • The Charter’s instruments: early warning system, the “Harmonised Framework” for a vulnerability analysis of at-risk households and zones
  • The Regional Food Security Reserve

Day two will be dedicated to the Senior Experts’ Group meeting (SEG-AGIR), where the group will review progress made in formulating “National Resilience Priorities” (NRPs) in the 17 participating countries, and will seek to reaffirm commitment towards their implementation and the federating mandate of AGIR throughout the region.

This event forms part of the Sahel and West Africa Week 2015 that is organised by the Sahel and West Africa Club and its Members and partners in the context of Expo Milano 2015, the Universal Exposition dedicated to the theme of “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life”, by invitation of the European Union.
