In recent years, the rapid development and growing potential of Africa, as well as the new major challenges have increased the interest of the European Union, EU member states, other global players, investors and civil society in Africa.

Estonian development cooperation organisations and private sector companies are increasing their interest and presence in Africa. In this regard the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has started the process to elaborate an Africa Strategy for Estonia that will focus on the political, economic and development dimensions of Estonia-Africa cooperation. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs invited ECDPM, to conduct an analysis of current developments and opportunities in Africa and to link these to Estonian priorities.

ECDPM’s Geert Laporte and Nadia Ashraf will make a presentation around the following themes:

– The EU in the Global World
– Key trends in Africa
– EU-Africa relations in the context of the new EU leadership
– Competition with other global players in Africa
– Considerations for Estonia’s Africa strategy, including sectoral and geographic focus
