International Crisis Group (ICG) and the European Peacebuilding Liaison Office (EPLO) will organise the second Early Warning Watch List Briefing,  presented by Louise Arbour, ICG President and Chief Executive Officer, and to be followed by a discussion moderated by Richard Atwood, ICG Director of Research.

Twice a year, International Crisis Group prepares an Early Warning Watch List identifying up to ten countries vulnerable to an outbreak or intensification of violent conflict or crisis in the following six to twelve months. The list includes a short overview for each country or conflict identified, outlining recent developments and forthcoming events that may increase risks. It also lays out opportunities for action for national, regional and international actors, particularly the European Union and its Member States. This Watch list briefing will contribute and feed into the EU’s early warning system that is being developed in follow-up to the Council Conclusions on Conflict Prevention of June 2011.

The second Watch List consists of the following countries:

  • Afghanistan
  • Central African Republic
  • Libya
  • Nigeria
  • South Sudan
  • Thailand
  • Ukraine
  • Venezuela
  • Yemen
