Discussion meeting and presentation of the Scoping Study

In January 2015, DEVCO launched a Scoping Study on Culture in European Union Development Cooperation. Its objective is – through a strategic analysis and consultations – to identify key strategic requirements for a future programme on culture, in the framework of the ‘Global Public Good and Challenges’ (GPGC) programme, taking into account the need to ensure coherence and complementarity with other financing instruments and aid effectiveness principles.

More specifically, the Study will review and consolidate the information available on current support to the cultural sector and identify best practices internationally. This will be complemented by an overview of the prospective approaches to culture by key stakeholders. In turn, this will lead to the formulation of a set of recommendations for a future programme and options for implementation of the GPGC thematic programme on culture, in the sub-themes of the Development Cooperation Instrument (DCI), this is:

i)           Support to intercultural dialogue, cultural diversity and respect for equal dignity of all cultures;

ii)         Support to Culture as a promising economic sector for development.
