Closing civil society space is a growing trend, impacting civic actors in countries throughout the world, with an alarming rise in restrictions placed on civil society’s ability to operate. The trend has encompassed a range or repressive measures by governments or society, from constraints on freedom of assembly to imposing limitations on NGOs funding or operations, from legal means to illegal violent measures.

An enabling environment for CSO and CSO development effectiveness are necessary prerequisites for CSOs to be able to act as implementers of the SDGs and watchdogs for accountability.

The Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation, together with 11.11.11, CNCD (umbrella organisations of civil society organisations in Belgium) and ECDPM are organising a seminar to explore this further on Thursday 17 December 2019 in Brussels.

ECDPM’s Jean Bossuyt will be presenting an ECDPM study and Geert Laporte and Martin Ronceray will act as moderators.

You can download the programme here.

If you would like to attend the seminar, please register by 10 December.
