Zakaria Amar joined ECDPM as Programme associate in 2007. He holds a Ph.D. in Social Science from the University of Brussels, Belgium. He is also the founding Director of ADAGE Conseils, a western Africa consultancy firm focused on governance. Based in Nouakchott, Mauritania, he holds Mauritanian nationality but has gained much of his experience abroad. He has 15+ years work experience with regional organisations and with central and local governmental and non-governmental organisations in Africa and the middle east in the area of institutional reform, organisational assessment and development. He has specific experience in Western Africa region: Senegal (03-04-05/2012, 06/2011), Mali (08/2005, 09/2007, 04/2011), Burkina Faso (04/2010, 06/2010,11/2010, 03/2011), Benin (07/2005), Ghana (09/2003).
Area of expertise: institution building techniques (strategic planning, institutional analysis, fundraising techniques, social marketing, etc), participatory techniques and stakeholder engagement, elaboration of strategic mapping studies of NSA and feasibility studies of decentralised cooperation and micro-realisation programmes
