Dr. Fabien Tondel, a French national, is Policy Officer in the Sustainable Food Systems team of ECDPM’s Economic and Agricultural Transformation programme. His work mainly relates to the Comprehensive Africa Agricultural Development Programme (CAADP), resilience in the context of food crises, smallholder agriculture, and private sector development.
Fabien also follows the European Union’s engagement in food security initiatives. He contributes to the activities of the Programme through policy-oriented research and the facilitation of inclusive policy dialogues and processes among a broad range of stakeholders.
Prior to joining ECDPM, Fabien was Markets and Trade Advisor for the USAID-funded Famine Early Warning Systems Network (FEWS NET) at Chemonics International Inc. and Michigan State University where he conducted analytical and capacity building activities in support of food security analysis and early warning in African, Central American, Caribbean and Central Asian countries.
Fabien also worked as consultant for a USAID trade facilitation project in the West Bank and Gaza. Before that, at the University of Kentucky, Fabien conducted applied research in regional economics, international trade, agricultural commodity markets, and agricultural and food value chain development.
Fabien holds a Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics and a M.S. in Economics from the University of Kentucky. He obtained his undergraduate degree from the National Superior Institute of Agronomic Sciences, Food and the Environment of Dijon.
