Intern for the European External Affairs Programme

The European Centre for Development Policy Management (ECDPM) offers an internship opportunity to support the European External Affairs Programme. The internship is based in the Brussels’ office of ECDPM, starting on 1 September 2018 for four (4) months.

ECDPM is a “think and do tank” that promotes inclusive forms of development and effective partnerships between the European Union and the developing world, especially Africa.
The European External Affairs programme contributes to the strengthening of European external action and more effective development policy and cooperation.

The intern will support the programme by:

  • Undertaking targeted pieces of desk research;
  • Providing written synthesis of policy and other documents and reports;
  • Monitoring policy debates in the area of European External Affairs;
  • Supporting the organisation of meetings and events;
  • On few occasions the intern might be asked to provide administrative and logistical support to the team.


  • Master degree in a relevant social sciences discipline (final year students that expect to graduate may also apply)
  • Knowledge of and interest in EU external action and development policy
  • Good research skills and familiarity with qualitative research methodologies. Familiarity with quantitative research methodologies is an asset.
  • Good organisational and communication skills
  • Excellent knowledge of English. Working knowledge of other languages is desirable.


The internship is based in the Brussels office of ECDPM, for four (4) months on a full time basis. The internship is remunerated according to Belgian legislation.
