In the context of globalization, regional economic integration and cooperation processes have become increasingly important in recent years. The European Union (EU) is considered in many parts of the world a role model and inspiration for regional economic integration processes. At the same time, regional organizations in Asia, Africa and Latin America observe that their conditions differ considerably from those of the EU. Therefore experts and decision maker from Asian, African, European and Latin American regional economic communities RECs, facing similar conditions and challenges, exchanged their experiences and best practices in a South-South-Dialogue about
• Organizational Development of Regional Economic Communities;
• Monitoring and Evaluation of Regional Economic Integration and Cooperation Processes and
• Awareness Raising for Regional Economic Integration and Cooperation.
This peer-learning was supported by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für international Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) with the corporate project “Support to Regional Economic Communities – Peer-to-Peer
Learning 2013/14”, was launched by a kick-off workshop that took place in Berlin (Germany) in 2013. At the final conference, jointly supported by the European Commission (Directorate–General Development and Cooperation – EuropeAid) and GIZ, decision makers and experts from regional economic communities around the world will discuss the key topic “The World in 2020: The Future of Regional Economic Cooperation/Integration” and the results of the peer-learning.
