Commodity trading has a long tradition in Switzerland. In recent years, however, the commodity and commodity trading sectors have increasingly come under the spotlight of public attention and debate. This is driving Swiss academia to engage with the topic and contribute to the ongoing debate. The Centre for Development and Environment (CDE) and the World Trade Institute (WTI) of the University of Bern together with the Institute for Business Ethics (IWE) of the University of St. Gallen have seized the initiative and are organizing an academic workshop on open research questions related to the production and processing, as well as the trade in hard and soft commodities. The aim of the workshop is to gather expertise, especially from Swiss academia, and to identify research gaps and needs.
ECDPM’s San Bilal will make a presentation at this workshop.
