The Open Society European Policy Institute, in collaboration with the Hertie School of Governance Berlin and its partner the German Institute of Global and Area Studies (GIGA), will organise a roundtable discussion on “Transformative Power Revisited: How does the EU affect governance through its assistance programmes”.

The Hertie School of Governance in Berlin and GIGA have teamed up to investigate the impact of EU assistance on governance abroad. Over three years, the study has surveyed 105 countries to determine whether and how EU assistance programmes are aiding good governance or abetting bad practices abroad.

We will use this event to hear from the contributing authors about case studies from three different regions —Eastern/Southern neighbourhood, Sub-Saharan Africa, and enlargement countries—and explore how these findings can inform the EU’s transformation agenda in its external action.
